Residents of Guntingli in the Yendi Municipality have complained bitterly about the bad nature of roads in the area, which impacts negatively on their daily lives.The residents expressed their unhappiness and disquiet about the deplorable nature of the sub-station road, which residents claimed has been abandoned by the contractor of the project for about six months now.

Speaking with the Assembly Member of the area, Mr. Mahi Darifu, he disclosed to the Dasuma Radio News Team that he approached the Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Ahmad Yussif Abubakari Kums on the issue of the road and the MCE also expressed similar sentiments about the contractor complaining of lack of funds which compelled him to vacate the site. According to the Hon MCE, the contractor assured that he would return to the site when funds are released to continue wth the project.

According to Hon Mahi, Guntingli is one of the biggest electoral areas in the Yendi Municipality, with an estimated population of about 7,000 but lacks development in some critical areas.”There are inner road constructions ongoing in Yendi but Guntingli is excluded, which is worrying,” Mr Mahi added.Mr. Ibrahim Baba, a resident of the area, shared his frustrations as to whether the leadership of Yendi has forgotten about the area as they lack behind in terms of development. Madam Amatu, a trader whose stores are closer to the road shared the effects of the bad nature of the roads on her business, saying that during rainy days she has to do a lot of work in the store before starting daily business as her store usually becomes flooded and dusty during dry the season.. Other people like tricycle drivers, popularly known as “Yellow Yellow” drivers, complained about the bad nature of the road which make plying of the road very difficult.

Dasuma Radio News Team tried speaking with the contractor but was unsuccessful.The resident, therefore, appealled to authorities to come to their aid by getting the contractor back to the site before onset of the rains to protect lives and properties.The Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Ahmad Yussif Abubakari Kums assured that his outfit is doing everything possible by speaking to the relevant authorities to ensure funds are released timely to the contractor in order that work could resume immediately.
